In 2016, Rotterdam celebrated 75 years of reconstruction since the Second World War with a cultural event. In doing so, we celebrated the city of today and looked ahead.
Early 2016 to 31 July 2016
Educational leader, network partner, and expert on Real Life Problem Solving and Real Life Learning. Collaborative partner to The Patching Zone and various other community partners.
To create 'The New Rotterdammer', an interdisciplinary light art object and symbol for the cultural event Rotterdam Celebrates The City. The object depicts a young Rotterdammer, a 'Meta Baby', as a symbol of the idea that Rotterdam starts anew every day and is ready for the next 75 years in the city's development.
Core values in Practice: Throughout this project, equity was evident in the collaboration between students, architects and artists, with everyone getting a fair chance to contribute. Courage was evident in the boldness of taking on such a large and challenging project. Respect, honesty and loyalty were important in the way the team worked together, valuing everyone's contribution and being honest about the project's progress and challenges. Self-control was essential to keep up and be patient in the face of challenges and setbacks.
My role included leading the educational aspects of the project, acting as a networking partner, applying my expertise in Real Life Problem Solving and Real Life Learning, and collaborating with more than 50 MBO and HBO students, architects and artists.
The result was an impressive 12-metre-high sculpture, exhibited until 31 July 2016. The impact was significant, with a strong symbol for the city of Rotterdam, and a clear demonstration of the potential of interdisciplinary collaboration.
This project contributed the insights of all the partners and personal insights into how interdisciplinary teams can collaborate effectively on large-scale socio-, technological and cultural projects, and how teaching and learning can be applied in this real-world context.
During this project, participants applied and further developed skills in educational leadership, networking, problem-solving in real-life contexts and real-life learning within this specific interdisciplinary context.
