LDE CfS connects academia, industry, and government to accelerate the transition to a circular economy through interdisciplinary research and real-world solutions.
The Centre for Sustainibility Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Universities (LDE CfS) is an interdisciplinary research centre where the universities of Leiden, Delft, and Rotterdam collaborate to accelerate the transition to a circular economy. The centre is committed to a systematic and holistic research approach to address sustainability challenges.
LDE CfS believes that collaboration between researchers from diverse disciplines, as well as engagement with external stakeholders such as businesses and municipalities, is essential for tackling complex sustainability issues. By adopting an open research model, the centre facilitates multidisciplinary and practice-oriented partnerships.
LDE CfS plays a pivotal role in connecting master’s students, researchers, municipalities, and businesses, with a primary focus on the province of South Holland. By co-developing demand-driven research topics with external stakeholders, the centre enables students to conduct research that has immediate societal impact. This approach fosters interdisciplinary research projects that contribute to sustainable solutions for societal challenges.
Master’s students are provided with opportunities to write their theses on topics directly linked to external stakeholders, such as companies and municipalities. This ensures that their research generates real-world impact.
The centre offers minor, master’s, and honours programmes focused on sustainability and the circular economy. Additionally, it provides PhD courses and knowledge platforms on transdisciplinary education.
In collaboration with organisations, LDE CfS facilitates sustainability challenges where students tackle real-world problems. These initiatives lead to innovative solutions and strengthened partnerships between academia and societal actors.
The centre provides Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on various aspects of the circular economy, such as Introduction to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Circular Economy of Metals. These courses aim to reach a broader audience and raise awareness about sustainable practices.
Through these initiatives, LDE CfS actively contributes to the transition towards a circular economy. It strengthens collaborations between academia, industry, and government to develop and implement sustainable solutions.
