House of Technology

House of Technology

House of Technology connected education and technical companies in Zeeland, inspired young people for careers in engineering and played a key role in regional economic development.

Mission

The mission of the House of Technology was to inspire and guide young people in Zeeland towards a future in engineering. This was done by introducing them to technical sectors at a young age, letting them discover the opportunities and careers within these sectors, and supporting them in making a conscious choice for a technical education or career. The House of Technology aimed to bridge the gap between education and the labour market through close cooperation with local companies, educational institutions and governments. This allowed them to contribute to the sustainable economic development of Zeeland and building a well-educated and technically skilled workforce.

Vision

The vision of the House of Technology was to create a sustainable link between education and the technical sectors in Zeeland. The aim was to ensure that Zeeland maintains a strong and agile labour market that is ready for the future. The House of Technology saw engineering as an essential pillar for the region's economic growth and wanted all young people in Zeeland to have access to high-quality technical education and career opportunities. By facilitating knowledge exchange, practical experience and inspiring activities, the organisation aimed to create an environment in which young people become enthusiastic about engineering and feel motivated to contribute to innovative solutions to tomorrow's societal challenges

Societal Impact

House of Technology played a crucial role in strengthening the Zeeland economy by promoting technical education and careers among young people. Through projects such as company visits, guest lectures, and initiatives like the Technique Ambassadors, the organisation has introduced thousands of young people to technical career opportunities, contributing to a better-educated and more engaged future workforce in the region.

Activities

The House of Technology organised numerous activities aimed at different educational levels, from primary education to secondary school and havo/vwo. Some core activities include:
-Engineering Ambassadors: professionals from the engineering sector gave guest lectures and accompanied young people during company visits, to enthuse them about technical professions.
-GirlsFuture: A specific programme aimed at encouraging girls to choose engineering, using role models and inspiring content.
-Engineering Bus: A mobile laboratory that visited schools to deliver hands-on engineering workshops.
-First Lego League: A challenging programme in which young people developed technical skills and teamwork by building and programming robots.

Dissolution

As of June 2024, the House of Technology was disbanded. Its activities have been transferred to other regional organisations such as Sterk Techniek Onderwijs Zeeland (Powerful Technological Education Zeeland) and Techniek Coalitie Zeeland (Technology Coalition Zeeland), which are taking over the coordinating and promotional tasks. Despite its dissolution, Huis van de Techniek has had a lasting impact on technology education in Zeeland and its legacy lives on through the continuation of its projects by other entities.
